Important Financial Considerations
The top rate of personal income tax in Egypt is 27.5%.
Players in Egypt typically have net contracts, meaning their take-home
pay is fixed, and the club covers any tax changes. Taxes are deducted
before the salary is paid.
There is a high risk of salary delays or non-payment. FIFPRO has
warned players about contractual violations, including unpaid salaries
and payment delays, by multiple Egyptian clubs. In 2023, FIFPRO
further warned players about this issue and advised ensuring the
contract specifies a fixed currency, usually USD or EGP.
If a player is coming to one of the big clubs, they will have a great
lifestyle, whether for the family or as a single person. The standard of
living is high, and the cost of living is relatively low, so there is plenty
to enjoy. The league is great for players to come as a step in their
career - the Egyptian players they are up against have good physique,
technique and physical ability, and proximity to the Middle East
means the players are often scouted by the clubs from that region.
