Important Financial Considerations
The top tax rate in the U.S. is 37%, but it varies by state and locality.
Players are subject to both federal and state income tax, except in
states without income tax, such as Florida or Nevada. The "jock tax"
requires players to pay income tax in each state where they earn
income. For example, a player playing away games in five different
states may owe tax in each, depending on the specific state's
regulations.
Players in the U.S. have a gross contract but are paid on a net basis,
meaning applicable taxes are deducted from their salary before
payment.
The risk of late or missed salary payments is low, as players generally
receive their pay on time each month.
Playing football in the MLS was an amazing experience. An
exciting league with top infrastructure and a lot of passion in
the fan base for their clubs.
It is avery physical league and all the teams generally are evenly
matched in terms of performance level. I’d highly recommend
players to experience it there, especially young players wanting
the time to learn and develop.
