Damallsvenskan
10/31
The Damallsvenskan is recognised for its fast-paced, tactical play and strong youth
development system, making it a respected league globally and a cornerstone of
women9s football in Scandinavia. The league features 14 teams, including prominent
clubs like FC Rosengård, BK Häcken and Linköpings FC, who enjoy strong local fanbases
and a track record of international players.
Its commitment to youth development means that the league has produced numerous
top players who go on to excel in international competitions and major European
leagues.
What are the foreign player rules?
The foreign player limitations and 8home grown9 player regulations in the
Damallsvenskan are the same as those in the Allsvenskan. Whilst there is no explicit
limit on the number of foreign players a club can sign, matchday squad regulations
create practical restrictions. A matchday squad must consist of 18 players, nine of which
must be 8home grown9. This means that no more than nine foreign players can be
included in a matchday squad.
A 8home grown9 player is defined as one who has been registered with a Swedish club for
at least three years between the ages of 12 and 21. Regardless of nationality, a player
who does not meet this requirement will not be considered home grown. While EU/EEA
nationals benefit from freedom of movement within the EU, this does not exempt them
from the home grown player rules.
