Immigration Rules
The most commonly used work permit for non-EU players in Sweden is the work permit
for athletes and coaches under contract with clubs affiliated with the Swedish Sports
Confederation. A permit is valid for up to two years or the duration of the contract,
whichever is the shorter. Applicants must be 18 or over with no restriction on eligibility
by nationality.
Player Requirements
For men, an employment contract with a Division 1 club or higher; women must be
playing in Damallsvenskan or Elitettan.
A minimum monthly salary of SEK 14,300.
Appropriate health insurance.
Endorsement from the Swedish Sports Confederation.
Dependents
Dependents, including spouses and unmarried partners, plus children under 21, can apply
for a residence permit for the same duration as the player9s. A spouse/partner will qualify
for a work permit if the player9s work permit exceeds six months. Dependents can study
without restriction.
Applications
Applications can be submitted online or at the Swedish Embassy/Consulate in the
player9s country of residence. This visa route can lead to permanent residency after four
years.
