Kvindeliga
16/31
Kvindeligaen is the top-tier women9s league in Denmark and is primarily semiprofessional. Most clubs offer part-time contracts, meaning players often balance their
football commitments with other jobs or studies. However, in 2024, Brøndby IF Women
made history by becoming the first Danish club to introduce full-time professionalism for
their women9s first team. This change allows players to fully dedicate themselves to a
professional football career.
The league consists of eight teams that compete against each other three times during
the regular season. The top six teams then advance to a championship round to
determine the title winner, while the bottom two teams enter a relegation play-off. The
most successful team in the league9s history is Brøndby IF which has won 12 titles.
What are the foreign player rules?
Teams are not limited by foreign player quotas, as there are no rules regarding the
squad's composition within Danish women9s football. As with EU regulations, female
players from EU/EEA countries can play in Denmark without restrictions. There are no
quotas or limitations on the number of EU/EEA players in a squad.
