Immigration Rules
The most common visa for non-EU nationals in Belgium is the Single Permit, a long-stay
Type D visa for professional athletes and coaches convertible into a residence permit.
The residence permit is issued for three years or the employment contract's duration if
below three years. Only EU nationals and their family members, regardless of their
nationality, are issued five-year validity residence permits (unless their employment
contract is concluded for less than five years).
Player Requirements
Employment contract with a Belgian club that meets regional salary requirements.
Police clearance.
Medical certificate and standard letter of engagement signed by the club that the
player will contract mandatory health insurance.
Dependents
Dependents must apply for a long-stay visa once the permit for the player has been
approved and can study and work without restriction.
Applications
After five years of continuous residence, players may qualify for permanent residency.
