Serie A
4/200
Serie A is one of the most competitive leagues in Europe. Recent champions include AC
Milan in 2022, Napoli in 2023, and Inter Milan in 2021 and 2024. This has brought fresh
dynamism to the league, ending Juventus9 nine-year dominance, which saw them win
back-to-back league titles from 2012-2021. Serie A clubs are known for their emphasis
on defensive organisation, a huge factor in the 12 Champions League titles won by Inter
Milan, AC Milan, and Juventus collectively.
The league continues to grow its global audience, thanks in part to partnerships with
international broadcasters. Viewership of the league reached a total of 210 million on
DAZN Italy last season, solidifying Serie A9s position as one of the most-watched leagues
worldwide.
However, it is notoriously difficult for foreign agents, and owners to operate in Italy as
legal and regulatory restrictions are often more onerous than in many other parts of
Europe. For example, foreign football agents wishing to operate in Italy must adhere to
regulations established by the Italian Football Federation and the Italian National
Olympic Committee. Accreditation is hard to achieve for foreign agents, meaning they
will often have to work with an Italian-registered agent who acts as a proxy through a
8domiciliazione9 agreement.
What are the foreign player rules?
EU players have the same freedom to play in Italy as in other European countries.
However, Serie A clubs can register only two new non-EU players per season. British and
Swiss players are exempt from this limit, as are any players who have not yet registered
with any national football association. This rule aims to promote the use and
development of Italian players for the benefit of the national team.
