Germany
Frauen-Bundesliga
3/31
Established in 1990, the Frauen-Bundesliga is Germany's top tier women's football
league and currently comprises 12 teams, which will be expanded to 14 for the 25/26
season. Wolfsburg, Eintracht Frankfurt and Bayern Munich have dominated the league
over the past few years and the top three teams automatically qualify for the UEFA
Women9s Champions League each season.
The Frauen-Bundesliga continues to grow, with attendances increasing 277% in 22/23
and a further 6% in 23/24, while Frauen-Bundesliga matches can be streamed for free on
DAZN. Efforts to fully professionalise the league are ongoing and average monthly
salaries have risen to approximately €3,500.
What are the foreign player rules?
There is no limit on the number of foreign players a club can include in its squad, and
unlike the men9s Bundesliga, there is no requirement for a minimum number of homegrown players.
