Non-EU athletes and coaches over 18 can apply for Spain9s Highly Qualified work and
residence permit. The employer must initiate the application before the athlete arrives in
Spain. The residence permit is valid for the duration of the player9s employment, but it is
initially capped at three years.

Proof of accommodation, health insurance and a clean criminal record.
Dependents
Spouses, persons with a similar affectionate relationship, and children can join the player
under this visa. This also extends to dependent relatives under the care of the player. A
residence permit is issued for the same duration as the player9s permit and enables
study and work without restriction.
Applications
Applications for this permit can be submitted abroad or after arrival and can be done
online. It can take up to 20 days and cannot be expedited. Players can apply for
permanent residency after living in Spain for five years continuously. Nationals from
certain Latin American and other countries can apply for Spanish nationality after two
years of residency.
